Simba is a culturally and gender specific mentoring program for African-American boys and African-American men. The men provide the boys with pathways for leadership opportunities, exposure to growth prospects and community pride. Through consistent relationship building, the boys are empowered to reflect their new skills and knowledge in a positive and productive manner that demonstrates self-development and civic-mindedness. Simba is supported by the Simba Advisory Committee.

College-Bound mentors are matched with youth ages 15 and older to help youth prepare to reach their dreams. They develop long term, structured, and trusting relationships with youth, while providing support, guidance, instruction, and advocacy as youth prepare for their careers. Mentors teach youth that life holds many options and that they can achieve their goals.

Our Crisis Center is located at the agency’s intake, assessment and investigations department at 4071 East Main Street. The needs of the Crisis Center are diverse and our volunteers are there for us in a variety of ways. They clean and sanitize toys, stock shelves and provide childcare and other assistance as directed by appointed staff. Unlike our mentoring programs, crisis volunteers are not matched with a specific child. Instead, volunteers occasionally provide much needed support, interaction and supervision for children when they are brought to intake. In addition, they work to ensure that children who come to the Crisis Center experience a safe, secure, and positive environment where their needs are met.
